From The Desk Of: Chloe Colbird RPM PR’s Spring 2023 Intern

As I finish up my final semester of college, I find it difficult not to reflect on the past. I have experienced a lot of change over the past four years, and it is fascinating to look back on the decisions I've made and how they have shaped the person I am today.

To understand me a little better, we need to go way back. I am the definition of a “military brat.” Born into a family of Marines, my childhood was unlike your typical family. For me, normal was moving every few years at the drop of a hat and never looking back. In the span of 21 years, I have moved more times than I can count and have lived in various cities throughout California, Washington, North Carolina, and Texas.

What to do after high school? College? Military? Decisions… This was a hard one for me, it was either play it safe or take the risk. The military world was all I knew leading up to this point, but deep down I knew what I had to do. I applied to various CSUs and chose to attend Fresno State. Despite never actually living in the valley, I made the move and left home at 17 years old.

At this point, I knew college was the right choice, but I was undeclared and had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. I went back and forth from major to major and abruptly chose kinesiology. By the end of the following year, and one too many biology classes later I knew it was not the major for me. I was back at square one and felt lost. I then started taking career aptitude tests, all of which had the same result, Public Relations. Once I made the switch, it took no time at all for me to fall in love with public relations and advertising. I've always been a sociable person who can relate to a wide range of people. A career in public relations gives me the opportunity to combine my natural love of people, creativity, and passion for developing out-of-the-box content.

Last year, I reached out to RPM PR with the hope of getting an internship and one thing led to another and here I am! I am very grateful for this opportunity and for the RPM team. Everyone has been so kind, welcoming, and helpful. I can't wait to learn from these incredible women and increase my knowledge in this field.

In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, so take the risk!
